Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

I’m starting a new business venture and am investing more time and money than I am completely comfortable with. In all honesty, I’m scared shitless but I think this is the direction I to go in, so I’m doing it anyway. I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and into a place I’m not sure of and where I feel like I’m completely in over my head.

Our comfort zone is a funny thing. It feels good here: safe, warm, and cozy. It can also start to feel suffocating if we stay too long. Comfort zones are places of rest. You level up, rest in your new comfort zone awhile, and then get ready to step out and level up again. However, it’s so easy to get too comfortable and complacent and end up settling for less than what we’re worth or capable of.

I’ve been there. My last job was a huge comfort zone for me. I was there 10 years, knew I was good at it, and began to grow apathetic. Thankfully some events occurred which caused a shake up and I left to go into private practice. A year and a half later, private practice is my new comfort zone. I have a full caseload, am able to attract and retain clients, and no longer feel challenged by my work. Now, I’m stepping out again into the online space to try and make more of an impact for my clients and myself. Did I mention how terrified I am?

Stepping into the next level will always be scary. The coach I am working with just reminded me yesterday that transformation occurs in that place were we feel stretched, scared, and out of our depth. So, I’m going with it while focusing on managing my own anxiety so it doesn’t mess up the process.

We all go through leveling up processes in our journey and in order to level up you have to step out of your comfort zone. Will it be scary? Yes! Might you fail? Yes! But I say do it anyway. As I heard somewhere, courage is not the absence of fear but doing something despite the fear.
